Key benefits
-
Addresses a broad array of drinking water contaminants - Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition Filter Elements have been tested by independent third-party labs to remove or reduce 200+ typical waterborne contaminants found in U.S. and global municipal water supplies.
-
NSF 42 & 372 certified - Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition Filter Elements are certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 to reduce non-health-related contaminants (aesthetic impurities and particulates that affect taste and odor), and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372 which is consistent with the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and its lead-free plumbing requirements.
-
The only officially endorsed replacement filter - Buy with confidence. Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition Filter Elements are the only filter officially endorsed by New Millennium Concepts, Ltd. for use in Berkey water systems in lieu of Black Berkey Elements (BB9-2).
-
Universal design, long-lasting - For use in all Berkey water systems, including Go Berkey Kit, Travel Berkey, Berkey Light, Big Berkey, Royal Berkey, Imperial Berkey, and Crown Berkey systems, plus most other brands of gravity-fed water filter systems, for up to 5,500 gallons of water per pair of filters (filters may require replacement sooner depending on quality of influent water).
-
Faster filtration, TDS unchanged - The new formulation filters water quicker than Black Berkey Elements (BB9-2), so you can enjoy more great-tasting water in less time. The filter's design allows healthy minerals (which are total dissolved solids) to pass through, so a TDS meter is not an accurate way to determine water quality.

Lab results
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition Filter Elements have been tested by NABL, ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 accredited third-party labs using EPA guidelines and ANSI/NSF protocols to remove or reduce 200+ typical non-biological waterborne contaminants found in municipal (treated) water supplies. They are certified to NSF/ANSI 42 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372.
How to set up
- Prime the elements. Stretch the included PrimeEasy™ Universal Primer over your faucet, attach each element and run cold water through it to flush out carbon dust and push air out of the pores.
- Install. Fit each element through the upper chamber with its washer and wing nut, hand tight. Plug any unused holes with the blocking plugs.
- Run the red dye test. Add up to 1/8 tsp (10 drops) of red food coloring per gallon of system capacity to the upper chamber. If the filtered water comes out clear, everything is sealed and working. Use red coloring only - natural or organic dyes can give a false fail. Remove any PF-2 elements before testing.
- Fill the upper chamber and enjoy. Gravity does the rest - no power or plumbing needed.
Questions about this product
Will Phoenix filters fit my older Berkey?
Yes. Phoenix elements are made for all Berkey® systems - Go Berkey Kit, Travel, Berkey Light, Big, Royal, Imperial and Crown - plus most other brands of gravity-fed filter systems.
How is Phoenix different from Black Berkey®?
Phoenix is the only filter officially endorsed by New Millennium Concepts, Ltd. for use in Berkey systems in lieu of Black Berkey Elements (BB9-2). It's NSF/ANSI 42 and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 certified and filters water faster than Black Berkey elements.
How often do I replace them?
Every 2,750 gallons per element, or 5,500 gallons per pair. Filters may need replacing sooner depending on the quality of your source water.
Why didn't my TDS meter reading change?
Phoenix elements are designed to let healthy minerals like calcium and magnesium pass through. Those minerals are total dissolved solids, so a TDS meter is not an accurate way to judge water quality.
Do Phoenix filters remove fluoride?
For fluoride and arsenic reduction, add Berkey PF-2™ elements, which attach below the Phoenix elements. Our Phoenix + PF-2 combo includes both.
Can you ship to California or Iowa?
No. Per Berkey, Phoenix filter elements are not available for sale to residents of California and Iowa, so we can't ship this product there. We currently ship to the contiguous U.S.
