NSF/ANSI 42NSF/ANSI/CAN 372200+ contaminants testedISO 17025 accredited labs

NSF/ANSI Standard 42

Certified to reduce non-health-related contaminants - aesthetic impurities and particulates that affect taste and odor.

NSF/ANSI/CAN Standard 372

Certified lead-free, consistent with the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) and its lead-free plumbing requirements.

Independent lab testing

Tested by NABL, ISO 9000 and ISO 17025 accredited third-party labs using EPA guidelines and ANSI/NSF protocols to remove or reduce 200+ typical non-biological waterborne contaminants found in municipal water supplies.

What was tested

According to Berkey, Phoenix elements were tested against a broad array of typical non-biological waterborne contaminants found in U.S. and global municipal water supplies, including:

  • Perfluorinated "forever chemicals" (PFAS, PFOA & PFOS)
  • Synthetic organic compounds - industrial and agricultural chemicals (SOCs)
  • Heavy metals
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Volatile organic contaminants (VOCs)
  • Bad odors and tastes

How to read lab results

  • Lab tests typically use water spiked with high levels of a contaminant, so results show reduction capability rather than what's in your tap.
  • "Below detection limit" means the lab's instruments couldn't measure any remaining amount.
  • NSF/ANSI 42 covers taste, odor and aesthetic contaminants. It is not a health-effects certification.
Phoenix elements are tested against typical non-biological contaminants in municipal (treated) tap water. We don't claim they remove bacteria, viruses or parasites, or make lake, river, rain or other untreated water safe to drink.
